2019 4-H Communication Institute is for youth who would like to expand their communication skills alongside Cornell faculty, students, and their peers. There is no prior knowledge or prep work required to participate.
This year we will host two tracks with support from the Cornell University department of Communication. The emphasis in the two tracks will be on persuasive and informative talks. Each track has a thesis statement & structure workshop to support it and the informative talk track has a complementary workshop on arguments. The persuasive talks track is complemented with a workshop on adapting to an audience. Free time will be provided to work on a polished 5 minute presentation.
The event will be held on the Ag quad in Warren Hall and housing is available on West campus for youth delegates, approved CCE volunteers and staff June 1-2, 2019. The fee to participate is $50 for youth delegates, $79.55 for CCE approved volunteers and staff (based on a double occupancy) and $109.55 for CCE approved volunteers and staff who occupy single rooms.
The NYS 4-H office would like to recognize the generous support of the NYS 4-H Foundation in helping to make this event possible. The fee covers your participation and your lodging. All adults have to be registered with a local CCE office as an approved volunteer in order to stay in the dorms. If not they will have to find alternative lodging.
Youth who place in the top of their track will serve as Ambassadors for the NYS 4-H office for the 2019-2020 year. In addition there are opportunities to work with local media at the NYS fair, as well as partner with National 4-H in order to cover the Youth in Action award ceremony, and to serve as a judge for Cornell University sponsored speaking competitions.
