4-H Teen Leader recognized for helping establish the Diversity Café at Union-Endicott High School

As a student at Union-Endicott High School (UEHS) and 4-H UNITY (Urban Neighborhoods Improved Through Youth) Teen Leader and 2022 Youth in Action Award Winner Brianna Attey Mouanjo hosted a series of conversations during school lunch hours with other students, faculty, staff and Endicott Police Officers on social justice, race and reconciliation.

In response to Brianna’s efforts and their own commitment to support the efforts of UEHS’s Diversity Club, the Union-Endicott Central School District’s Board of Education began discussions about how best to create a space where students could meet and continue having conversations on topics about social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion in a safe, welcoming environment.

Recently, Bri presented a check for $600 for the establishment of the Diversity Café to Nicole Wolfe, Superintendent of Schools, at the Union-Endicott Central School District Board of Education’s June 2022 meeting. Bri, who is now a freshman at Georgetown University, had applied for and received an America’s Promise grant for $300 to be used for the Diversity Café. Thanks to Bri’s initiative, the grant from America’s Promise was matched by an anonymous donor, for a total of $600.
