Agriculture Career Day at the New York State Fair

ask37

Agriculture Career Day at the New York State Fair, hosted by NY Agricultural Education Outreach in partnership with the Department of Labor, will be Thursday, August 22nd. The goal of the event is for youth to explore careers in agriculture.

The event team is looking for adults and youth to facilitate stations and lead a short activity (script and materials provided). There are 9 food and agriculture career-focused interactive learning stations around the fairgrounds. Upon activity competition, the participating youth receive a sticker in their passport that they return for the chance to win a Nintendo Switch. It’s a fun celebration of New York agriculture, focus on careers they may not have ever heard of, and chance for them to see areas of the fair they may not normally venture to.

The time obligation is as follows:

9:15am                Kick off meeting, tshirt distribution, instructions and questions about the assigned sites.

9:45am                Group photo.

9:50am                Disperse to stations. (1 adult with 2-3 youth)

10:00am             Start scavenger hunt.

2:00pm                Return to Main Gate with materials, pick up, and packing.

2:15pm                Drawing with the youth who completed the program.

2:30pm                Done!

The ideal young adult for this experience is an older teen who is willing to lead an activity, engage in conversation with families about the assigned career area and their interest in agriculture, and committed to arriving on time and staying for the duration of the program.

You can sign up through the Participation Form and also share the form with others who may be interested in participating (youth and adults). We are able to provide admission and parking if needed. This form should be submitted no later than Friday, August 2nd.
