DemocracyReady NY Coalition

cll243

We are excited to share that the DemocracyReady NY Coalition is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 youth cohort! We would appreciate you sharing this opportunity with any interested high school students!

DemocracyReady NY is a statewide, nonpartisan, multigenerational coalition committed to preparing all students for civic participation. The Coalition is a project of the Center for Educational Equity at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Our youth engagement program is designed to support and amplify the voices of young people in high school and early college from rural, suburban, and urban districts across New York State as they engage in student-led inquiry and advocacy. Through this program, students will work alongside coalition members to advocate for New York students’ right to be prepared for civic participation.

For more detailed information on the program timeline and requirements, visit the application form. Please also feel free to share the attached flier. Apply by September 1st.

To facilitate participation from regions across the state, the cohort will meet remotely on Zoom. Students will receive a $300 stipend for each semester during the 2024-2025 school year.

We encourage you to share this opportunity with your students. For more details, families and students can watch a recording of our information session.

Land Acknowledgement

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign Nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The Confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York state, and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.

This land acknowledgment has been reviewed and approved by the traditional Gayogo̱hó꞉nÇ«' leadership. Learn more
