Erie County 4-H: Recipient of the 4-H Lead to Change Award

Congratulations CCE Erie County 4-H for being selected as one of 15 teams to receive the award from 4-H Lead to Change project!!!

Every year 4-H'ers gather at the national youth summit that inspires young people with the ideas they need to become leaders and positive disruptors in their communities. At the Ignite by 4-H Summit, youth participants, with adult mentors, are given the opportunity to develop, present, and implement a 4-H Lead to Change project. Lead to Change is an enriching continuation of the summit that sparks their interest and drives the desire to do more within every 4-H'er. The process challenges young people to step up and act on a specific issue facing their community.

Selected teams are awarded $2,000 to fund and help implement their Lead to Change project in their community. CCE Erie County 4-H received the fund for their Two-Bite Club: Plant-Based Edition project.

“Buffalo has been designated a food desert with 35% of residents living more than a mile from a grocery store. Youth aim to provide plant-based menu options to residents who may not have access by working with local corner stores and other community partners that are part of the Healthy Community Store Initiative to offer free plant-based menu items to Buffalo residents of color most affected by food apartheid. The “Two-Bite Club” helps encourage people to take at least two bites of a new food to give it a try!”
