Proposals Wanted for the Spring PYD Virtual Academy

Courtney Livecchi

Dear NYS Colleagues,

What are you doing in your 4-H programs to help youth build resilience, find purpose, and be ready for work and life? As I think around the state it seems to me that New York has a lot to share. I hope you will submit a workshop proposal for the Spring PYD Virtual Academy May 7-9. Workshops are 90 minutes, and if selected, presenters receive a small stipend ($250) for their presentation.  Proposals are due next Friday (March 1) and the proposal process itself is not extensive so please check it out! Don’t let the words resilience, purpose, or readiness cause you to think you have nothing to offer. How about this – what are you doing to help youth be healthy, productive, and engaged in their communities or in leadership? These are the very things that help ensure a youth is resilience and ready. The capacity building sessions of the academy are the place where 4-H professionals can share their experience and expertise with peers. Check out the proposal information here: https://pyd-academy.extension.org/4-h-pyd-virtual-academy-may-7-9-2024/

Questions can be directed to Capacity-Building Co-Chairs Kasey Bozeman (kaseyb@uga.edu) and Meredith Kreeger (mlkreeger@ncat.edu).

And while we are on the topic, be sure to mark your calendars to attend the virtual PYD Academy May 7-9. I guarantee you do not want to miss the keynote speakers Stephanie Malia Krauss (author of Making It, and Whole Child- Whole Life, and a BIG supporter and fan of 4-H) and Kendall Cotton Bronk (author of Purpose in Life: A Critical Component of Optimal Youth Development). In addition to the keynote there are daily reflection and application panels, capacity-building sessions, and the opportunity for New York 4-H attendees to spend time together processing and applying what is learned each day. This is our 4th annual spring virtual academy and one that should not be missed as together we work to build 4-H practice that is based on the latest research in youth development. Registration open March 25th! https://pyd-academy.extension.org/ (scroll to second event on the page, and while you are there, check out the upcoming PYD Immersion Academy on Helping Youth Thrive through a Computer Science Lens! These one-day immersions have been wildly popular and a great way to get some concentrated professional development in 6 hours from your desktop!
