Professional Development

Connections and Community are such a beloved part of our 4-H program and creating spaces where all 4-H professionals can gather to reflect on the joyful pieces, roadblocks and problem solving creates a roadway for blooming. Whether you are brand new to 4-H, have spent your career in 4-H or fall somewhere in between the NYS 4-H team has created a virtual, shared coworking space to support our collaborative work across NYS. We imagine the coworking space as an opportunity to strengthen the 4-H community through relationship building, shared resources and storytelling.

We are excited to listen to your feedback, brainstorm and network together on topics along with using this space as a way to support connections and professional development in our 4-H program.

Topic: Supporting others through Coaching/Mentoring Relationships

Has there been someone in your life who has made a lasting impact on you through their coaching abilities? As 4-H professionals, we all have the ability (and need) to coach for that same type of lasting impact on the people we work with (supervisors, co-workers, employees, volunteers, youth, community partners, etc.). Whether you are a brand-new hire or an educator with 20 years of experience, coaching is a skill we all can continue to develop to help gain more positive outcomes and lasting impact. Join us for an interactive session that will cover various aspects of coaching including what it is, what it looks like in action, who we can coach, techniques, applications, and the skill of being coachable. We hope you will better understand how coaching can be a helpful tool in your leadership toolbox and you will think of opportunities to implement coaching in your 4-H position.

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign Nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The Confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York state, and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.
